Study Abroad Credits Excluded from the Credit Limit!
To all German course students:
It has been decided that study abroad courses will no longer count toward the credit limit. Previously, these credits had to be included within your limit, but going forward, they will be counted as additional credits. This applies not only to German but to all languages offering study abroad programs at SFC.
This change will take effect starting with the spring 2024 study abroad programs.
Let’s actively participate in study abroad opportunities!
About the Placement Test
If you fall into any of the following categories, please take the Foreign Language Proficiency Certification Test conducted before classes begin in April and September. The certification test assesses both writing and speeking skills at each level. If you hold certifications such as those from the Goethe-Institut or the German Language Proficiency Test (Dokken), please notify us in advance.
- Those who have already studied German in high school or elsewhere and wish to start from an intermediate level
- Those who wish to skip levels
Those who are certified can start from higher-level classes, such as Intensive 2 or 3, Basic 2, Skill, or Content (lecture courses). Even non-freshmen can take the proficiency test and skip levels, for example, advancing from Intensive 1 to 3 or from Basic 1 to Intensive 2.
For any other questions, please contact the German Language Research Office (Building λ, Room 410, doiken [at] sfc.keio.ac.jp).
Fall Semester 2024
This semester’s German language courses will primarily be conducted in person (some content courses will be online).
The main tools used are Slack and K-LMS.
Depending on the situation, classes may shift to online, in which case ZOOM will be used.
Communication Tool with Instructors: Slack
A workspace is set up for each class. Membership registration will be done using your CNS account (sfc.keio.ac.jp), so please install Slack on your computer in advance.
Mac: https://slack.com/intl/ja-jp/help/articles/
Windows: https://slack.com/intl/ja-jp/downloads/windows
Once you receive the invitation message, please access it and complete your registration.
K-LMS
General email communications and important information will also be sent via K-LMS. Be sure not to miss any email notifications. Additionally, please follow any instructions from the course instructor.
*Consultations with the German Language Research Office faculty or student SAs are available at any time. Even if it’s not directly related to the course content, feel free to reach out for advice on study methods, useful learning websites, or anything else. Don’t forget to use Slack as well! 🙂
